This Privacy Policy explains how CartWatch ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information about you when you use our website at cartwatch.ca. We are committed to being transparent about our data practices.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum information needed to provide our service:

• Name and email address — collected when you create an account
• Usage data — anonymized analytics data about how you use the site, collected via Google Analytics (see Section 5)
• Cookies — session cookies necessary for you to stay logged in, and Google Analytics cookies (see Section 6)

We do not collect your payment information. All payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card number, expiry date, or CVV.

We do not collect your precise location. If you use the GPS store finder feature, your browser requests your location directly — this is processed locally in your browser and is not transmitted to or stored by CartWatch.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and manage your CartWatch account
• Send you transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, subscription receipts)
• Send you product updates and announcements if you have opted in
• Understand how the service is used so we can improve it
• Respond to support requests or inquiries you send us

We do not use your information for advertising purposes, and we do not share your personal information with third parties for their marketing use.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal information on the following legal bases under applicable Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) and New Brunswick privacy legislation:

• Contract performance — processing your name and email is necessary to provide you with the CartWatch service you signed up for
• Consent — for optional marketing emails, which you may withdraw at any time
• Legitimate interests — for anonymized analytics to improve the service

4. Stripe — Payment Processing

CartWatch uses Stripe to process Premium subscription payments. When you subscribe to Premium, you enter your payment information directly into Stripe's secure interface. CartWatch receives only a confirmation that payment was successful — we never have access to your full card details.

Stripe's collection and use of your payment information is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.

5. Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect anonymized data about how visitors use CartWatch. This includes information such as pages visited, time spent on the site, and general geographic region (country/province level). We do not use this data to identify you personally.

Google Analytics uses cookies to collect this data. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Google's collection and use of data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

6. Cookies

CartWatch uses the following types of cookies:

• Session cookies — necessary for you to stay logged into your account. These are deleted when you close your browser.
• Authentication cookies — remember your login across sessions if you select "Remember me."
• Google Analytics cookies — anonymized usage tracking as described above.

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or any cookies that profile you for marketing purposes.

7. Email Communications

We use MailPoet to send transactional and marketing emails. When you create an account, you will receive transactional emails (such as account confirmation and password resets) — these are necessary for the service and cannot be opted out of.

We may also send you product update emails. You can unsubscribe from non-transactional emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or contacting us at info@cartwatch.ca.

8. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your name and email address within 30 days, except where we are required to retain records for legal or accounting purposes (e.g. records of payments).

Anonymized analytics data collected through Google Analytics is retained according to Google's standard retention settings and does not identify you personally.

9. Your Rights

Under Canadian privacy law, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Correction — request that we correct inaccurate information
• Deletion — request that we delete your account and personal data
• Withdrawal of consent — opt out of marketing communications at any time

10. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure. Our website uses HTTPS encryption for all data in transit. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. We do not store payment card information.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we do our best to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children's Privacy

CartWatch is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users by email. Continued use of CartWatch after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
